CARL JUNGEBRAND RETURNING FOR A SECOND CAMP IN AUSTRALIA

Carl Jungebrand, the FIBA Head of Refereeing, will return to Australia and extend his visit to New Zealand for a series of training workshops in January and February.

The clinics have been organised by Basketball Australia and Basketball NZL in cooperation with FIBA and the NBL for state programs prior to the commencement of their regular seasons.

They will focus on basketball refereeing philosophies, mechanics, techniques, conflict & conversation management and game control while also enhancing the capabilities of referees at all levels.

Also attending the workshops will be Stephen Seibel, a Canadian FIBA official and instructor, Alejandro Vaquera (FIBA Fitness Coordinator) and Albert Joseph, NBL Senior Referee Manager.

Following last year’s clinics, Joseph was thrilled at the opportunities provided to Australian referees.

“To be able to have Carl here, to impart his knowledge, only shows that we are advancing our education development,” he said.

“Our educational standards are world-class, the officials that have gone over and represented Australia in international events have been world-class and we want to further that and make sure more of our referees get those international opportunities.”

The workshops will begin in Brisbane at the Qld Sports and Aquatic Centre on Thursday January 28, followed by an Auckland clinic on January 30.

A Melbourne clinic on January 31 will be held at Dandenong Basketball Stadium with Tasmanian SEABL referees also flown in before the Adelaide Arena on February 1 will host a clinic for South Australia.

The tour concludes in Perth on February 2 and Sydney on February 4 with venues to be classified.
