Australian Basketball Hall of Fame

The Hall of Fame recognises those people who have made an outstanding contribution to the sport of basketball in Australia at the international or national levels, NBL/WNBL, State/Association, local level, or to basketball generally.

These Awards reflect and acknowledge the growth of basketball in Australia and the wonderful tradition that has been developed and is continuing to establish basketball as one of the premier sports in Australian sporting history.

The ABHF is open to able-bodied athletes as well as athletes with a disability. Inductees to the ABHF will be in four divisions:

i)    Player

ii)    Coach

iii)    Technical Official

iv)    Contributor

The awards will reflect an outstanding contribution to Australian basketball in one of these four divisions.

An Award may also be given in the following category:

Legend Award

-> The Legend Award is the ultimate award in the Hall of Fame and can be made only to persons who have previously been inducted into it.

-> One ‘legend’ across all ABHF divisions may be inducted in each award period

-> An ABHF Legend nomination is restricted to those whose association with Australian basketball has reached “legend” status, who have previously been inducted into the Hall of Fame, and whose service to basketball and Basketball Australia is worthy of the highest honour in Australia in the sport of basketball.

Process

On receipt of nominations for the ABHF the following process will follow:

-> Review of nominations by a Screening Committee to verify eligibility criteria.

-> Consideration of verified nominations by the Honours and Awards Commission, which will make recommendations to the BA Board.

-> The Board will consider recommendations from the Honours and Awards Commission, and make its approval for induction to the ABHF.
