Lauren Jackson Sports Centre official opening

Jayco Australian Opals captain and basketball superstar Lauren Jackson today was the guest of honour as the Albury City Council officially renamed the Albury Sports Stadium the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre.

Jackson arrived in a black Mercedes convertible in front of over a thousand cheering fans, Jackson's family and friends, before the official ceremony proceeded, culminating with the unveiling of the the new stadium signage adorning the very building where Jackson shot her first basket as a four year old.

"Out of all my accomplishments, this has definitely got me the most nervous and most excited," said an emotional Jackson. "This is definitely something that I'll remember for the rest of my life."

After unfurling the drape that hid the new signage above the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre entrance, Jackson then took a mob of fans and media into the stadium where an interactive display, which highlights and celebrates Jackson's achievements, was also unveiled.

"The importance of this place to me is huge and to be able to share this day with you guys, I'm humbled and honoured," she said.
