Boomers land in Spain ready for action

17.07.12

The Australian Boomers have landed in Europe to be greeted by sweltering weather and things are expected to heat up on the court as well, with their two-game series against European Champions Spain beginning on Wednesday morning (AEST).

Boomers eager for a strong performance against Spain.

Fresh from their final training camp on the Gold Coast, the Boomers were greeted by mid-30 degree temperatures on their arrival into the southern Spanish city of Granada, a far cry from the wintery conditions they left behind in Australia.

The Boomers will have little time to soak up the rays however with a two-game series against European powerhouse Spain kick-starting a busy period in their build-up to London.

With less than two weeks to the Boomers opening Olympic match against Brazil, Australian head coach Brett Brown believes the opportunity to take on a Gold Medal-calibre team will be a valuable experience.

“To play Spain, in Spain a few weeks away from an Olympic Games is just a fantastic basketball experience for our players,” Brown said.

“To add the fact they are a legitimate Gold Medal candidate just makes it more of a great opportunity to see where we are at.”

The series takes on added significance with the Boomers due to face the Spanish in their second pool game of the Olympic tournament on July 31.

The two-game series against Spain starts on Wednesday morning (AEST) with game two on Thursday morning (AEST) before the Boomers head to France for games against Brazil and France.

The series will be shown in Spain on local network TVe (http://www.rtve.es/).
