Rollers open with easy win
The Rollers have opened their London Paralympic campaign with a romp over South Arfica.
The Rollers Australian men’s wheelchair basketball team have started their gold medal defence in style at the London Paralympic Games, notching an easy 93-39 win over South Africa in their opening pool game.
Justin Eveson led the Rollers with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Shaun Norris had 17 points and six assists and Tristan Knowles added 15 points and five rebounds.
Richard Nortje was the only South African in double-figures with 14 points.
Australia started well and led 27-16 at the first break.
The Rollers then put on the afterburners in the second period, holding South Africa to just four points for the quarter while scoring 20 of their own to lead by 27 at the main break.
The Rollers then outscored South Africa 46-19 the rest of the way to record a crushing opening win.
The Australians enjoyed total dominance in the key against the South Africans, outscoring them 74-14 in the paint.
Australia next plays Turkey in their second pool game at 3:30AM on Saturday morning Australian Eastern Standard Time. The Turks scored a 59-50 upset win over the United States in their opening game.
