Seekamp and Cadee awarded Staunton scholarships
17-year old Nicole Seekamp of South Australia and 18-year old Jason Cadee of NSW have been named as Bob Staunton Scholarship holders for 2010.
The announcement of the scholarships was made at the AIS Awards Dinner last night in Canberra by Minister for Sport Kate Ellis.
Seekamp, a 178cm guard that wore green and gold at the Australia Youth Olympic Festival in January and represented Australia again at the FIBA Oceania Tournament in Saipan, made her WNBL debut in October.
Cadee, a 186cm guard from Bankstown that shone for the Australian U19 Emus at the 2009 FIBA World Championship for U19 men, debuted for the Boomers in 2009 against Argentina on a tour of South America.
Both athletes are scholarship holders at the Australian Institute of Sport.
Bob Staunton made an enormous contribution to Australian basketball as both a player and an administrator.
Staunton represented NSW as a player and participated in the first basketball game to be televised in Australia. From 1975-1980 he was the Manager of the Australian Senior Men's Team and he also served for many years as the Secretary General of the Australian Basketball Federation.
During his time at the ABF Staunton helped to establish the Australian Junior Championships, the National Youth Teams and the Australian Institute of Sport basketball program and he was inducted into the Basketball Australia Hall of Fame in 2006 for his efforts.
