Aussie stars in action - WNBA Week 7 Wrap

22.07.11

Penny Taylor and Liz Cambage are off to the All-Star game this weekend, while O’Hea and Phillips record season-highs.

Here is your Week 7 update of the seven Aussie stars playing in the WNBA.

The biggest news of the week was the naming of Penny Taylor and Liz Cambage to the Western Conference team for the WNBA All-Star game, which is being played at the home of Tully Bevilaqua’s San Antonio Silver Stars this Sunday morning (Aust Time).

It’s a testament to the outstanding seasons the two stars respectively have had, with Taylor being named for the third time in her career, and Cambage in her very first season.

Australian fans will have the opportunity to watch the game on LIVE at 5.30am on ESPN on Sunday morning AEST, as well as when it is replayed on ESPN2 at 10am, and ESPN at 8pm Sunday night.

It was also a week of season-highs for the Aussies, as Jenna O’Hea recorded the first double-double of her WNBA career with a 12 point, 11 rebound performance for the Sparks. O’Hea also connected on 7 of her 8 three-point attempts for the week.

Erin Phillips had a new season-high in points, building on three weeks of momentum and strong performances, exploding for 21 points against the Atlanta Dream.

Finally, the Aussie influence on the WNBA continues to captivate the US media. In this great article ESPN.com caught up with most of the WNBA’s Aussies including Tully Bevilaqua, Belinda Snell and Jenna O’Hea to hear about the camaraderie between the girls from Down Under.
