Time out with Box Hill Women's Captain Olivia Simmons

Olivia Simmons, Captain of the Women's Box Hill Senior School team took time out to have a quick chat about her team’s experience throughout the tournament.

Box Hill have been seen as a serious threat in the competition, going through winning all of their games and heading into the grand final undefeated where they will meet John Paul College.

What has the week at the Australian Schools Championships been like for you?

It has been a great week. It is an honour to be a part of such a wonderful tournament with so many teams from around Australia.

How does it make you feel going through the competition undefeated?

It is really exciting and is where we were hoping to be come finals time. We have such a good group of girls and being undefeated has just brought us closer together as a team.

Who do you see as a threat or your competition in the tournament?

John Paul College. They are a really quick team, with some great outside shooters.

Seeing as your team is strong, what preparations did you make before heading into the tournament?

We trained twice a week and at those trainings we all worked very hard. We are also good friends off the court which helps us gel together on the court.

Do you have any pre game rituals?

We have a bit of a sing on the bus to get us prepared and ready to play J

What have been your team’s strengths and weaknesses?

I definitely think that working well on offence and keeping our opposition to a low score all game. On the other hand, we tend to get a bit lazy sometimes and on our defence, our close outs need improvement.

How many girls in your team have represented your state?

We are very fortunate to have five girls who have played at state level for Victoria, it makes a big difference as we are used to the pressure games.

We wish Box Hill Senior College and John Paul College all the best in the Grand Final that will be played at Newcastle Basketball Stadium at 12.30pm. It will definitely be a match not to miss.
