Jayco Opals and Boomers ready to tip-off Farewell Series
The Jayco Australian Opals and Australian Boomers basketball teams will tip off The Farewell Series tomorrow from Hisense Arena in a double-header match-up, with the Jayco Opals doing battle with Brazil and the Boomers facing Greece.
Both contests are the first of their respective three-game series, with the hit-out providing our national teams with the perfect preparation before they depart for London.
The Farewell Series also offers basketball fans the opportunity to see their favourite Aussie stars take to the court in one event, with the series opener at Hisense being the only double-header billing, the remaining games of The Farewell Series being held as stand-alone contests.
“The Boomers are extremely excited to play in front of our Australian basketball fans,” said head coach of the Boomers Brett Brown.
“I believe that the fans will be very proud of the development that our players have made over the past year. We have a group of committed athletes who have worked hard to come back with a world-class fitness base and now it’s their time to play,” he said.
Both the Jayco Opals and Boomers named their 12-player teams yesterday for London, as they aim to make history, with The Farewell Series playing an important part in the preparations of both teams.
“Basketball Australia has done a great job in providing our senior national teams with a fantastic preparation schedule, which includes this opportunity to play against a quality international team before we depart for Europe,” said Brown.
“This Greek team will be made up of young, athletic players and they will be hungry for success and our guys are looking forward to beginning this special journey to London,” he said.
Only a limited number of tickets are still available for tomorrow's double-header clash at Hisense Arena, with the Boomers vs Greece clashes at the State Basketball Centre and Geelong Arena, as well as the Jayco Opals vs Brazil match-up in Bendigo having all sold out. Tickets still remain for the Jayco Opals vs Brazil clash from the State Basketball Centre, next Thursday evening.
