Old man Harvey? Beep that.
30-year old James Harvey has won the beep test on the opening day of Boomers Camp.
Twenty-six elite athletes descended on the AIS in Canberra on Friday and were put through rigorous agility, speed, fitness and stamina testing to determine who has worked hardest in the off-season.
Rapid repeat vertical leaps, short sprints, timed shuffle drills, skin fold tests and the dreaded beep test were just some of the exercises that the Boomers squad had to undergo.
And it was James Harvey, the oldest player in the group, who outlasted second placed Jacob Holmes and all others in the endurance beep sprint test, where the longer you run, the faster you must go to remain in the drill.
Head Coach Brett Brown and the new coaching staff also put the squad through a solid two hour scrimmage in an extended afternoon session with the action starting again on Saturday morning and continuing through until Tuesday afternoon.
A Boomers team will then be chosen to contest two games against China in China later this month.
Nathan Jawai has recovered from the stomach ailment that kept him away from camp and will join the group on Saturday afternoon.
