TOP OF THE TABLE EMUS AND GEMS ADVANCE TO OCEANIA CHAMP SEMI-FINALS

The Australian Emus and Jayco Australia Gems have both finished on top of their groups at the end of the pool stages, advancing to the Semi-Finals on Friday.

Both teams have earned a day's rest before they face New Caledonia in their respective Semi-Finals with the women tipping off at 12pm AEDT before the men hit the court at 2pm AEDT.

In their final group stage game, the Emus used a 25-0 run out of half-time to put Fiji away but the hosts were able to respond, taking the fourth period 16-12.

The final result was never in doubt though with Australia dominating the Fijians on the boards (66-33) courtesy of Isaac White's double-double of 15 points and ten rebounds off the bench.

Jacob Rigoni (17 points, eight boards) and Samson Froling (five points, ten rebounds) also helped control the front court while Lat Nai (nine points) proved his outside shooting with three three-pointers as every Emu hit the scoreboard.

In the women's competition, the Gems' 122-8 victory over Fiji was marred by an injury to Maddison Rocci who was hit in the head by an errant shoulder as she dived for a ball against a Fijian opponent in the first five minutes.

While she did not return to the game, Rocci is expected to be right for the Semi-Finals and the Australians were able to power through following her injury, leading by 19 points at quarter-time before holding Fiji scoreless in the second and third terms.

During that period, the Gems went on an incredible 91-0 run although they were aided by Fiji's 2-12 shooting from the free-throw line.

Every Australian hit the scoreboard aside from Rocci, paced by Chantel Horvat (24 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals) as well as Ezi Magbegor (16 points, eight rebounds) and Chloe Bibby (15 points, eight rebounds) who controlled the paint while a 12-point second term from Monique Conti helped her collect 16 points for the game.
